MYSTICAL MUSICAL MEMORIES – Alive today, here in
Panama!
If the answer is yes, then mark Tuesday evenings on your
calendar!
Nestled throughout (and I do mean throughout) the lobby
lounge at the Continental Hotel on Via Espana, lay a
treasure all music lovers will be in awe of. A mighty
Wurlitzer theatre organ so large it occupies 2 out of the 3
walls of the lounge …and even spills out into the lobby.
The way it is installed is worth a visit in itself to see, let-
alone hear. My friends and I found ourselves participating
in a treasure hunt of attachments just walking (well, some
of us couldn’t help but dance)around the room at the same
time music, lights, bells, glockenspiel, castanets -and so
much more - filled the air …along with our souls.
(the following is an excerpt from the one of Elvin's up & coming articles)

Wait, there is ANOTHER treasure - the organist himself! Professor Gilberto Santos. With the touch of his fingers and dedication from his heart, he brings this mighty organ to life. Gilberto fell in love with this organ at first sight, and has now been playing it for 25 years.
This amazing man’s repertoire ranges from show tunes through Latino to classical.
There truly is something for everyone.
|
Dr. Santos is also a fountain of knowledge about Panamanian history, both the country and its politics, if one can pry him away from the keyboards.
We listened with gripping intent, and know you will too. But I will say no more for now… as it is our next EXPAT EXPLORER EVENT!
We will be there February 17th, as well as Tuesday, the 31st (actually, I am sure some of us will be there every Tuesday), so come out and find out “the rest of the story” for yourselves! See you there….!

Elvin is a retired high school Principal from Ontario Canada with a passion for exploring, traveling, music, and, of course, writing.
Spending the last three winters in exploring various areas of New Zealand, he is now in Panama on a continuance of his search for a "permanent" winter home.
|
|
While in New Zealand, he studied various amazing courses at the University, his favorite being one on the Antarctic, traveled extensively, ….and even lived on a sheep farm just for the experience!
|
|
Now, though only new to Panama, Elvin has found several "cultural" events, a piano & voice instructor, as well as a fun place to take Spanish lessons …..already! He will be sharing all of this and more with us through future articles as he feels writing helps to focus the mind and sharpen curiosity which in turn, enriches our travels!
|
Please feel free to write Elvin with any tips, article ideas, and especially any further Panamanian treasures that you might like to share and/or have shared with our readers! Elvin’s email address is elvinsrudy@hotmail.com
